Maine map

Perched at the northeast tip of the United States, Maine is a state of fresh air, crystal-clear cobalt waters and deep pine forests populated by endless species of wildlife. Just one visit to this rugged land can renew your spirit and refresh your perspectives -- hence Maine's motto, "The way life should be".

The photos below are of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Portland, all on the southeastern coastline.

Acadia National Park Map

Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island, a bulbous stretch of land suspended off the mainland. Park Loop Road snakes all over the island; the summit is known as Cadillac Mountain.

At the summit of Cadillac Mountain - a stone pathway leads you around.

The scenery is amazing...

Looking southward

One view is better than the next

Despite the strong winds and crowds of tourists, Cadillac Mountain is still a perfect place to clear your mind

View of Bar Harbor from Bar Island.

"The Bar" is a muddy stretch of land connecting Bar Harbor to Bar Island. Once on Bar Island, keep an eye on your watch - once the tide rolls in you'll be stranded!

The quaint town of Bar Harbor - crammed with every shop & store imaginable

Taking a stroll along Shore Path, a pathway that ambles along the shoreline.
This stretch is especially magical at sunset...

Foliage on the way to Hawk Mountain, about 45 minutes from Portland.

Drive along tree-lined country roads which take you half-way up the mountain...

Park your car and hike along a picturesque trail...

About 20 minutes later (yes that's all!) you arrive at this magnificent view... Oh how wonderful!

Same view, just landscape mode...
With scenery like this, it's hard to stop snapping pictures :-)

And turning a little to the right...you can see Sebago Lake in the distance

Walk further down the trail to an even more magnificent view. What a perfect Fall day!

Looking down, you see a winding river

View from the Eastern Promenade which stretches along northeast Portland, and offers fantastic views of Casco Bay. Make yourself comfortable on one of the many park benches and take in the view...

Definitely my favorite place in Portland

Looking out, all you see are sailboats and islands (and this time of year - October - some foliage)
