On cloudy days, use the fill flash feature on your camera to lighten dark shadows

For scenic photos, take pictures at early morning or late afternoon. The light is softer and more ethereal.

At the beach, protect your camera and film from sand by keeping them in zippered plastic pouches when not in use.

To capture the magnificence of a landscape or huge monument, include some people for scale.

Always pack extra batteries, and film or memory cards.

If you're like me and you take many hundreds of shots with your digital camera, make back-ups with a multimedia storage device (see below in Recommended Gear).
