Athens:
- Athens is one of the noisiest cities I've ever visited! All day, all night cacophony.
Since many get around via motorbike, it sounds like chainsaws tearing through the city, so if you're a light sleeper, request a room facing away from the street.
Earplugs are also a good idea.

- So much of Athens is marble, which is very slippery. Watch your footing, especially if it should rain.

- In summer you'll encounter mosquitos, so be sure to pack repellant.

- Visiting the Acropolis, be aware you'll have to climb a high hill. If you have health issues, take it slow (but it's worth the climb!)

- The people are very nice, but can be a bit gruff.

- Greek food is delicious! - but swimming in olive oil, so grab extra napkins to soak up the excess
Santorini:
- Santorini is incredibly beautiful. Be sure to reserve ahotel room facing the caldera (not the other side)

- For getting around the island, bus is the easiest. Buses run all over the island, including to the airport.

- Late afternoon, take the bus to Oia for the sunset. People gather outside to toast the setting sun, which is always stunning.

- To get to the shore from the caldera top, you can take a cable car, ride a mule, or just walk down the stairs.

- Be sure to visit the ruins at Akrotiri. Buses can take you there (unless it's changed since I visited, the site is closed on Mondays)
